Your Day Out

Your Highlight

1.) Fuel Up!

You’re starting at The Hart of Hartford for breakfast  or just a coffee! Use postcode CW8 1NP to get there, parking is road-side. After a wonderful breakfast get ready for some adventures!

2.) Burn off Breakfast!

There’s a tonne of places to make a day of walking around northwich!

The first is Marbury park. Use Postcode CW9 6AT to reach the pay and display carpark.  The park provides way too many paths to explore to list here, but rest assured you’ll find plenty to walk around! We’d particularly reccomend checking out Witton Lime Beds and Neumans Flashes at the South Eastern point of MArbury Park.

One of our own reccomendations would be to follow this 3 hour circular walk that includes MArbury, but also goes through Great Budworth, which we’d reccomend having an explore of simply to see the wonderful historic buildings and homes here.

There’s some smaller walks you can do such as if you park on Jacobs Way in Pickmere here, you can make a lovely circular walk around the lake that you can follow here.

Or, if you park here, you can follow the obvious path all the way down to the locks and the river weaver. you can walk either direction on the weaver. If you head right you can make your walk as long as you like by turning rounf at any point, or heading all the way up and back to “Bottom Flash” in Winsford. Alternatively, head left down the weaver, making either a small 45 minute circle by heading back up and across on the A556 (the Blue bridge overhead with heavy traffic on makes this unmissable), back to your car, or continue down the weaver before turning round back to the blue bridge and your car. The weaver is great for wildlife, including kingfishers, herons and more!

3.) And Relax…

The Salty Dog is known for it’s live music which is a fantastic way to end the day! Head to Barons Quay carpark here before a short walk to the high street to the Salty Dog.

Right now your day out could be just half a day. Here are some fantastic ideas to add to it!

Wanna Do More?

  • From the Hart of Hartford, you could always take a little stroll up to Hartford’s delightful highstreet!

  • Before heading out for your walk, you could nip 5 minutes down the road to Blakemere Village. Check out the antiques, birds of prey, independent shops, or even let the kids play at the fairground!

  • If you’ve decided to take a look around the historic Great Budworth, why not grab lunch at The Cock O’ Budworth?

  • Northwich itself has two core shopping areas to explore - Barons Quay, and the high street. We’d recommend checking both out before heading to The Salty Dog!

Some Highlights!

Here are some little extras we’d love to point out!

Key Sights:

  • As you approach the blue bridge from the locks along the River Weaver, on your right hand side you’ll spot a small raised walkway into a nature area full of reeds. You can spot some fantastic wildlife here including bats in the evening!

  • If you’re feeling up for it, along the River Weaver, walk past the blue bridge and into Northwich, negotiate past the quay and Waitrose, crossing the bridge of the A553. Just at the end of the bridge you’ll see you can get back down to the river, now on the opposite side to where you were, and you can keep walking all the way up to take in Anderton Boat Lift

Here’s a couple of great places to stop in at through your day! You simply have to check out:

Our secret pick:

  • The Salty Dog is a fantastic evening venue, you’ll love the live music! If you fancied, you could always get a heavier lunch at The Stanley Arms, and then focus more on the live music at The Salty Dog!
