John Evans

Founder

I was born and raised in Kelsall, Cheshire. I have worked as a truck mechanic my whole working life, and as a local lad, I’ve grown to know Cheshire like the back of my hand - my wife jokes I’m a satnav.

I’ve always been a problem solver, and when Josh and I became friends, we’d spend hours over a pint, problem solving ideas in his business. It became quickly apparent that the perspectives and thought processes I had complimented Josh’s, and we became a sounding board for eachother.

I grew up in Devon, moving to Cheshire at 19 to read Animal Behaviour at the University of Chester. I then worked for an evolution research group at the University of Liverpool for 4 years before opening a boutique pet store called Ginger&Browns right in the heart of Cheshire in 2016.

Through the trials and tribulations of recessions, Brexit, the pandemic and more, then running a business solo meant that I turned to John as I valued his thoughts, and together we hashed out some great ideas

So How does a truck mechanic and pet shop owner become a marketing firm??

One fateful Wednesday, we went out to several local cafe’s and pubs, talking to other local business owners to understand if there were ways to collaborate and support each other in a tough market.

What became immediately apparent is not only were there hundreds of others disenchanted with the costs of marketing and their inefficiency, but that each independent business had a wealth of ideas and knowledge that sparked a fountain of ideas in both of us.

We batted around collective flyers, where 10 businesses would all combine to produce 1 flyer marketing all 10 businesses, and all 10 businesses would then introduce their client base to the other 9 businesses. From that idea, making that flyer a website and a simple QR code, we knew we could begin sharing the client basis of businesses with other businesses all across Cheshire. We knew that the website couldn’t simply be yet another directory, but we knew that by sharing the knowledge we were gaining in an easy to use way, it would let people using our website find these local gems.

Josh’s experience over the last 8 years gave him the insight into the return businesses need for their money, and John’s never ending passion for the consumer experience meant that we could combine to look after both sides of the equation in a way we haven’t seen done before.
