Your Day Out!
1.) Fuel Up!
You’re starting at The Lockgate for breakfast or just a coffee! Use postcode CW6 9NJ to get there, there’s parking on site! After a wonderful breakfast get ready for a great time out walking!
2.) Your Highlight
It’s almost a crime not to head along the Shropshire Union Canal if you’re visiting the Lockgate!
From the car park, head right for just a few meters and you’ll find yourself stood over the canal itself
head down the steps and you’re there! It’s 66 miles long, so you can spend the whole day on it if you wish, or if your more sensible head up and then back for as far as you like. there’s also multiple public footpaths to make a circular walk!
Add in the sandstone Trail
heading left (West) on the canal; after aproximately 30 minutes of walking, you’ll reach The Shady on your right.
Head up off the canal and cross the bridge over the canal and head past the shady to the T junction a few minutes up the lane.
You’ll spot the green footpath sign indicating the Sandstone Trail, heading north towards Frodsham.
Wanting some forest? Head for Bulkeley Hill!

You can’t miss the gate into the woodlands, get exploring!
3.) And Relax…
If you’ve come off the Sandstone Trail into Tarporley, you could use The Swan for your lunch or evening meal depending on how much time you’ve spent walking!
If you’re driving in, use the postcode CW6 0AG to arrive at The Swan, right in the heart of Tarporley. There’s free parking provided!
